I could not be more excited to be sharing today’s engagement session from Old Town Alexandria with Megan and Ben! A fellow UMW Eagle is on the blog – AHH! Their relationship, personalities, and love for each other is so unique…
Megan and Ben met a while back in high school in their first period English class. They eventually became friends, but didn’t start dating for a while. Years down the road after they had been dating – their mothers realized that the two had been in the same swimming class when they were 7 years old! What are the odds?! Their first date started out at a local Olive Garden at the age of 15 which led to Megan spilling lemonade ALL over Ben! To this day, she still has no idea why he asked her out ever again.
Long distance relationships can be extremely trying on couples. However, Megan and Ben didn’t let it phase them – Ben had recently moved away to New York City for an amazing opportunity for his dream job! Megan was here in Washington DC and would pick him up from Union Station.
One of their favorite parts of being long distance was how they had the opportunity to try SO many different foods from many restaurants in the two best cities ever – New York City AND Washington DC! Their entire relationship revolves around food, so having these opportunities just adds to the experience!
One night when Megan met him at Union Station, Ben was surprised and acted a little funny, which made Megan a little suspicious. They ended up heading on over to Fiola for dinner. If you haven’t tried their food yet, it’s a little Italian restaurant by the National Mall. They were headed on over to Old Ebbit Grill (AMAZING if you haven’t been there either – go try it!) and made a detour for the National Mall. However, it was closed due to the construction going on so they ventured on over to the Washington Monument. It was a gorgeous night and they could see the stars in the sky for miles. They felt like they could see the entire world from up there – the Capital was in view, the Rosslyn Skyline, and the Lincoln Memorial! Romantic? Yes. Could it get any better?! Maybe…
They were taking in the fact that they had the entire monument all to themselves and Ben suddenly got down on one knee. He was PROPOSING! Megan was so excited and couldn’t wait to marry the man of her dreams that she didn’t even take a look at the ring on her finger until 30 minutes later! Hah!
Planning their session was one of the easiest sessions I’ve ever planned. They wanted to do their session in Old Town and I immediately knew we were a match made in heaven! Old Town has such beautiful photographic opportunities – there’s a waterfront, there are gardens, cobblestone streets, and so many cute little houses! What more could you want?
By the time their engagement session date came around, I couldn’t believe we were already there! We started out with their more classic outfit and walked all over Old Town. And when I say all over…I mean ALL OVER! It was one of the hottest days we had so far in the year and we were covered in sweat from head to toe. Thank goodness for Air Conditioning in Starbucks!
We found some super cute porches all over and of course we had to go to the cobblestone street. It’s iconic for this sweet little town – you can’t go there without checking it out. On the way to Starbucks to switch outfits, we found an adorable alleywall with twinkly lights that just screamed our names! How could we not have them practice their first dance under those sweet lights?!
We then ventured on over to the Starbucks, grabbed some drinks, and headed on over to the waterfront. Apparently there was some sort of high school or private school dance going on because there were teenagers in ballgowns all OVER the place! We definitely thought it was a little late for prom so it had to be something else… any ideas?!
We walked along the waterfront just chatting and taking in the nice breeze. We even found a cute spot on the docks that had just enough space for some photos – I seriously wish we had a behind the scenes photo of how we got those shots! We ended the session a little further down the shoreline on some rocks and finished with some sweet, romantic close-ups. Megan & Ben’s session was SO fun and I’m so excited to share these images with you!!
