This weekend I had the honor to photograph not one, but two beautiful weddings for such sweet families. On Saturday, Kaitlin and Justin finally tied the knot after 10 years. I feel like I have been waiting a lifetime along with their family to see this wedding finally happen! I remember back in February of 2015 (!! – yes, 2015!!) when Kaitlin contacted me. She had been following me on Instagram and was finally engaged herself and loved my work and all she wanted was for me to photograph their wedding. She contacted me FIVE days after her engagement. That right there was such a compliment and I just knew we were a right fit because photography was just that important to her. They didn’t even have a wedding date or venue booked!
We finally got everything settled, planned their engagement session, and had a wonderful time wandering around Richmond! Even as we planned their engagement session, I sent her blog posts to help prepare and she had already read them! That’s when I seriously knew how great of a fit we were. The engagement session was SO fun and is still one of my favorite sessions to this date.
If you don’t remember from their engagement session blog post, I’d love to get you up to date! Kaitlin and Justin were middle school sweethearts! Not high school, middle school. How cute is that?! They were the last two on the roster in one of their classes and were left to sit next to each other and get to know each other better. They stayed together throughout high school and college. Now, they’ve both graduated from the University of Mary Washington and VCU.
Walking up to Virginia Mountain Vineyards on Saturday morning, everything was so surreal. I couldn’t believe this day was finally here. It had been 27 months since Kaitlin, Justin & I had first discussed their wedding. So much anticipation. And it was so worth it. I walked into the bridal sweet to find her sweet mama, Julie. We chatted while we waited for the girls to arrive and she gave me & my second photographer (Kristina) personalized coffee tumblers with our names (and Kristina’s was spelled correctly!!) and they were in our brand colors. They are honestly so sweet that they took the time to make such customized gifts just for their photographers. This family is seriously the sweetest and I feel right at home with them.
Kaitlin arrived and she looked SO BEAUTIFUL – I could seriously cry! I took some detail photos for her while they relaxed a little bit with Kristina and then her mama helped her get into her dress so she could go see her daddy and her almost-husband! There were tears – even though we all tried to hold them back. It was so emotional and it was finally kicking in. Kaitlin was about to marry the man of her dreams. She walked up to her dad and he had the cutest reaction ever! That calmed her down a little bit until it was time to see Justin.
Then we had to take some seriously deep breaths and walk over to her almost-husband! Honestly, one of my favorite first looks ever just because of the raw emotion that unveiled. They loved each other so much and they were finally about to get married. We took some portraits and then it was finally time for the ceremony! They ended with a bubble exit and I am seriously loving those photos!
Their reception was so fun and joyful. Kaitlin’s dad, Scott, gave the most amazing toast ever to start things off and you could see tears across the room. His words resonated with everyone and we were all so thankful to be a part of Kaitlin & Justin’s wedding day. She danced with her daddy and Justin danced with his mom. Then it was time to party and Scott Habeeb sure does know how to throw one! He had the kids on the dancefloor the entire night and it was one wedding I sure will never forget!
Congratulations, Kaitlin & Justin!
