They say that the number 7 is lucky… well, these two decided that year 7 was finally the time to tie the knot and it couldn’t have gone any better! Kristen & Daniel are two of the sweetest souls I have met to date. Daniel treats Kristen like a queen and Kristen is honestly the most humble and kind woman out there. The day I first met Kristen & Daniel, I immediately felt welcome into their lives and a part of their story – it’s just who they are. They care SO much about everyone else and want to make everyone comfortable and happy. They have some seriously kind hearts and the world is so lucky to have them.
Kristen and Daniel met when they were taking a psychology class at Boston University back in 2010. I absolutely love this story because it was told about 3-4 different times during the wedding day with all different takes on it. But the general consensus was that Daniel asked Kristen to go over some notes he had missed for skipping class. The funniest part was – he skipped class for the very first time just so he could ask her for the notes. The even funnier part? He never even looked at the notes! He just wanted to get to know her and they ended up in the pouring rain and instead of calling it quits then and there, they made the best of it and found shelter and got to know each other better. How sweet is that?! I just can’t handle it.
Kristen and Daniel are super easy-going people and had been in a long-distance relationship for quite some time since they were both graduate students, but at different schools. Daniel came back to Northern Virginia and Kristen was still up in Boston. You know it’s true love when you Skype/FaceTime each other at dinner time so you can have dinner together!! Because that’s what they did!! They both want to be in the school field which is pretty cool – just a little different job descriptions; Kristen wants to do school psychology while Daniel wants to be an elementary school teacher!! Kristen and Daniel got engaged in Paris on a dinner cruise and if you don’t remember the whole story, you can find that here!
When I arrived on the wedding day to Birkby House, Kristen greeted me with open arms and pulled me in for a big hug. She is seriously SO sweet!! I gathered up her details and took them towards some great light and starting photographing her gorgeous heirlooms and bridal details while she and her bridesmaids finished getting their hair and makeup done by JKW Beauty. Kristen and Daniel come from two different backgrounds, but they wanted both sides to be prevalent during the wedding day. Because of that, they performed a Chinese Tea Ceremony in the early afternoon where her mother gifted her a gold necklace and two gold bracelets that were so gorgeous and went so well with her red dress. Later in the day, the enjoyed Daniel’s family’s Jewish traditions by signing their Ketubah and having their ceremony outside under their gorgeous Chuppah decorated with beautiful florals provided by Holly Chapple.
Following the Chinese Tea Ceremony, Kristen changed into a new dress for the second ceremony and slipped into her new gown which fit her like a glove. The dress looked SO amazing on her. BOTH of them did – she is just so beautiful, inside and out. As she put on her next dress, she shared some sweet moments with her mom and sister and new mother in law! Then all of the girls sipped some champagne and got Kristen ready to see her dad! I am really loving all of the father-daughter first looks this year. They are so sweet and I absolutely adore getting to see each dad react to how beautiful their little girl is on their wedding day! You’ve got to check out Kristen’s dad below!
After the father-daughter first look, Kristen and Daniel shared their own first looked and then snuck outside for some portrait time hidden away. It was just the two of them and they could be themselves together before the ceremony and relax a little. The bridal party joined them shortly and then we all got ready for the gorgeous ceremony!
Their reception was SO much fun! I have done a few Jewish weddings before, but none of them ever ended up doing the Hora! Well, Kristen and Daniel were outside enjoying their Cigar Bar and were ushered back inside to be sat into two chairs and then thrust into the air! It was seriously such an amazing time and I would do this every weekend if I could! I loved how energetic all of their guests were and I was amazed at their energy levels as they danced around the couple all night long! Kristen and Daniel’s wedding day was one for the books and I’m so honored to have gotten to capture their wedding day. Kristen and Daniel, thank you so much for being the sweetest lovebirds in the world and congratulations!! I hope you have an amazing honeymoon in Japan!!
