Rhiannon and Brett are two of the most light-hearted souls I have ever worked with and that truly played into their wedding day more than anyone could have imagined. Brett and Rhiannon first met back in 2012 when they were both at a New Year’s Eve party, but didn’t really connect for another year and a half after a bunch of going back and forth with liking each others’ Instagram posts!! Their first date was at Legend’s Brewery, but a typical date night for the two of them would be making dinner themselves and enjoying it in the backyard or on their porch. Brett and Rhiannon own a home in the gorgeous city of Richmond, Virginia and they LOVE DIYing their home. They have been putting SO much work into their home over the past year and it has just turned out so beautifully. Most people don’t love manual labor, but that’s just how the two of them are – they’d hands-down rather spend their weekends doing house projects than getting dressed up to go dancing. I love it! They both also just happened to go to Virginia Tech – go Hokies!
When Brett proposed, Rhiannon couldn’t have wished for it to be any other way. She honestly was SO ready to be engaged that she had imagined a million ways he would propose, but this was definitely her favorite. It was a few days before Valentine’s day when he had mentioned he got her a gift. She was SO intrigued because Brett was acting super weird and suspicious and really wanted to give her the gift then and there. He went to his car while she kept cooking dinner and he approached the house with a black bag. Rhiannon was 99.9% sure that it was the Apple Watch that she had been begging to get for the past months. She was so excited but had to play it cool and just kept cooking dinner. Somehow, the bag disappeared and Brett managed to be down on one knee in front of the stove. She was so excited and SO surprised – she totally thought it was going to be the watch, haha!! Apparently, that was the best meal of burned chicken and cold sides they ever had because they were engaged so everything tasted amazing!
Back to being light-hearted… The forecast for Rhiannon and Brett’s wedding day for the majority of the week leading up to the big day wasn’t the most promising. For most people, this would have really bummed/stressed them out, however it didn’t even seem to affect Rhiannon and Brett. Their light-heartedness allowed them to make the best of it and really care about what matters. They were still getting married even if it was going to rain and that’s just the attitude that they had about it. It spread throughout the guests and everyone was so happy for them regardless! I LOVED that and loved the fact that even though it started hailing the moment that the ceremony ended, everyone continued to celebrate the beginning of a beautiful marriage.
When I arrived in the morning and was photographing her gorgeous heirlooms, I couldn’t help but be excited for her to get dressed!! The ring that Brett gave to her when he proposed was her great-grandmother’s and I am just a sucker for these precious heirlooms. Her mother’s house was filled with trinkets everywhere that they had collected, including the gorgeous silver dish that I photographed a lot of their details on! It was finally time for Rhiannon to get dressed and Sarah, her maid of honor (and forever date to every dance they went to), helped her get into her dress and put her shoes on. Rhiannon just looked absolutely stunning as she watched outside the window overseeing the final touches being placed for her ceremony! It was starting to feel so real!!
Rhiannon and Brett shared a first look and his reaction was so precious. He absolutely adores her and just loves how she sees the positive in everything. They are just too darn sweet together. We took some gorgeous portraits of the two of them and got all of their family formals done before the ceremony – how crazy is that?! Well, it was just luck that we got them done because as soon as the ceremony finished, it started POURING rain! We were all so grateful that they decided to do a first look because none of us had to go out in the pouring rain for photos and they were able to party their hearts away for the rest of the evening! I am so happy for these two – Congratulations Brett and Rhiannon! You two are clearly meant for each other and you are going to have a beautiful marriage!!
