Today I am sharing Jessica and David’s Jefferson Memorial engagement session on the blog and guess what?! They are getting married TOMORROW! I figured there was no better time to share their gorgeous Washington DC Monument engagement photos than today. 🙂 Let me start off by telling you – these two have the funniest sense of humor I have ever seen. When they answered my questionnaire for their engagement session, winky faces were thrown in here and there and you could just sense the sarcasm. I was dying laughing at some of the answers!! I have a strong feeling that it was David who filled out the questionnaire, haha!!
Something that I think is SO cool about Jessica and David is that they initially met on a dating app called Hinge. It is becoming more and more common these days for people to find their forever best friend online and I’m here for it! I would say (completely guessing here) that about half of all of my couples (current and past) met online! I’m honestly not surprised by this either – are you? Technology these days is so present in everything we do, so it only makes sense that you could potentially meet your soul mate via the world wide web!
For their first date, Jessica and David spent 4 hours at a local restaurant where they only intended to meet up for drinks. To this day, they still go back to try and find the same table. How cute?! Their go-to date night is a cute little family owned Italian restaurant that is down the street from them. It is sandwiched between two high rise buildings and doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, splitting a pizza and a carafe of House wine is the perfect way to spend a night on the town.
One of my favorite things to ask my couples is what they love about each other. For Jessica, it’s that David is her best friend. She just loves being able to be together and enjoy each other’s company. That is exactly how I feel about Colby, so I knew exactly what she meant. For David, he loves how sweet she is and how well she takes care of him. However, he also loves that they can just sit and talk for hours and they never get bored. She always has something clever, interesting, or silly to say to keep him on the edge of his seat.
One of my favorite things that they told me?! They love running errands together. Now if that doesn’t tell you that they’re meant to be together, I’m not sure where your head is at, haha!! Grocery/errand shopping is one of my favorite things to do with Colby too – we especially love browsing the aisles of Target. 😉
David planned the perfect proposal and completely surprised Jessica. They went to the Bahamas for vacation and little did she know, she’d be coming home with a rock on her finger. How cool is that?! I’ve been to Puerto Rico and I must say, the water is extremely beautiful there. However, I’ve always dreamt of going to the Bahamas. Maybe someday we’ll take a family vacation there…or shoot a wedding there?! 😉 David led Jessica down to the beach and popped the big question right at sunset! They showed me pictures of the vacation and of the ring after he proposed and it looked entirely romantic. And her ring is SO stunning – cannot wait to photograph it again tomorrow!!
When we discussed where to do their engagement session, Jessica brought up the idea of doing their session in Old Town Alexandria or the monuments. We ultimately decided to do the monuments because of the classic essence that DC has. We parked near the Potomac River and ventured our way to the Jefferson Memorial.
As we walked, we talked about The Bachelor for a pretty long time during the session. It was on that night so we debated what would happen for that episode. Spoiler alert – to both of our surprises, Colton picked Cassie! Who saw that coming?! However, we did predict a lot of the drama that occurred that evening and I was so shocked the next day, haha!! Speaking of good TV shows – they told me about the show Brooklyn 99, which I had never heard of. I recently starting binge-watching that on Hulu and it’s a must-watch if you love yourself some good dad jokes. We then decided to head on over to the Lincoln Memorial, only to find out that it was closed – yikes!! However, we made the best of it and got some gorgeous images even with a million and one people trying to take selfies with the Washington Monument in the background. We took pictures near the columns in order to avoid the crowds of crazy tourists!! We were able to go through many different poses while keeping them still in one spot. That way, we didn’t get all of the people in the in the shots and it turned out so well! Thank goodness for a beautiful backdrop, gorgeous lighting, and the million posing courses I’ve taken!!
