Hi there! Welcome to the DC photography blog, journal about my life, travels, and tips for clients. Stay a while and say hello!

I'M JESSICA!

JD + Joo

The Couple

I met JD and Joo for their engagement session a year and a half ago at sunrise in Georgetown and it was such a beautiful day! I learned so much about the two of them through their engagement session and then even more on their wedding day. They are so caring towards each other and have such sweet hearts. I love the sweet smile that Joo gets every single time she looks up at JD – SO stinkin’ cute! And the way JD just adores her?! Absolutely priceless!

When it came to deciding where to do their anniversary photos, JD and Joo loved the cozy feel that Old Town Alexandria emits and I thought it would be absolutely perfect for the two of them. They have had such an amazing year so far being married and one of the things they learned the most about each other was the fact that they completely agree on how to decorate their home! I absolutely loved that and the style of their home fits them so well – clean and modern and just gorgeous! However, more importantly – they learned that sometimes there will be arguments that just can’t be won over and instead, they have to compromise. That is such an important thing that Colby & I have learned during our first year of marriage as well. While we may not agree on the way we decorate, we give and take in certain aspects. He gets his man cave and I get the white bedroom curtains. It’s all about compromise y’all!

JD and Joo have always been so kind and caring towards each other and it is something that I truly admire and wish upon all of my couples. It’s more important to love your partner every single day and lift them up than to fight about the little things. They are going to be with you for the rest of your life so the constant reminders of how much you love them are what matters the most. Something else that JD and Joo mentioned to me really resonated well with me – one of the greatest things about being married is that at the end of the day, you get to come home to someone who will always be on your side and love you unconditionally. You can’t beat that feeling!

The Session

We started the session on the gorgeous cobblestone streets before the light disappeared too fast and had so much fun dodging the few cars that always come down that street, haha! The two of them danced around in the street and Joo even gave JD a twirl for a change – I just love how fun they are and how comfortable they are around me and a camera! That’s when I know I’m doing something right. 🙂

We walked over to the waterfront and talked about marriage until we found this gorgeous spot in a park lawn that had the most amazing light. We literally could’ve stayed there the rest of the night, but I’m glad we didn’t because some of my favorites from their anniversary session were on the docks where we finished up! There’s just something so romantic about walking hand in hand with your best friend surrounded by the ocean and some seriously magical light.

Happy Anniversary JD and Joo – I love y’all and am SO happy for you two!! 🙂
